A Letter from the Dean
Dear Cal Poly College of Liberal Arts Alumni,
Winter quarter was an exciting and productive one, as evidenced by many awards to and achievements by our outstanding student body and faculty! We are excited to share a few with you in this issue of The Link:
-
Innovative Events - The second annual Design & Development Hackathon, led by Graphic Communication Professor Lorraine Donegan, encouraged students from all disciplines to pool their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to develop an app, a website or other project that would make life better for Cal Poly and the community.
-
Student Success - CLA clubs, teams and organizations have reaped the rewards of hard work. Cal Poly's Model U.N. Team walked a mile in the shoes of Peru's real-life U.N. delegation and met them to discuss the experience. The Mustang Band was one of only two collegiate bands invited to participate in the San Francisco Chinese New Year parade. Since we last reported on all of the changes occurring in the Journalism Department, Mustang News was awarded 20 accolades, including best website.
-
Outstanding Faculty - Our faculty continue to positively impact the campus and broader communities. In this issue, we introduce you to Ryan Alaniz, a sociology professor working with the U.N. on disaster response, and Jody Lisberger, the Susan Currier Visiting Professor for Teaching Excellence.
-
Accomplished Alumni - AJ Forsythe (B.S., Psychology, 2011) was named one of Forbes’ Top 30 Under 30 Individuals in Technology. Forsythe founded iCracked, an iOS device repair company, from his dorm room at Cal Poly and now leads the multimillion-dollar company that employs many CLA graduates, including Cody Ward (B.A., History, 2013) and Leslee Lambert (BFA, Art & Design, 2011). Find out where their majors have led them.
As always, thank you for your continued support of the College of Liberal Arts. Please be sure to stay connected with us, like our Facebook page, to find out all the news and events from the college, and let us know about your activities.
Best Wishes,
Doug
