CAL POLY MODEL U.N. TEAM REPRESENTS CLA AT STATE AND NATIONAL CONFERENCES

Cal Poly’s Model United Nations team participated at the UC Berkeley Model U.N. Conference March 6-9 and traveled to New York for the National Model U.N. Conference April 13-17.

The Mustang Band marches at San Francisco's Chinese New Year parade

MUSTANG BAND MARCHES IN YEAR OF THE HORSE PARADE

On Nov. 1, the Mustang Band was honored to perform for the dedication of the Warren J. Baker Center for Science & Mathematics. Little did the band know that its campus performance would lead to an invitation to perform in the Feb. 15 San Francisco Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade, the largest New Year’s celebration outside of China.

Mustang News, the Journalism Department’s student-run integrated newsroom, received national and state recognition with 20 awards from the Associated Collegiate Press and the California College Media Association.

SOCIOLOGY PROFESSOR WORKS WITH U.N. TO BUILD AWARENESS OF DISASTER ISSUES

Are we prepared for major disasters? Does the U.S. government have a plan for when a disaster does strike? Cal Poly sociology Professor Ryan Alaniz is working toward that goal. Alaniz is involved with the academic arm of the United Nations, creating ideas that go beyond theory to further the goal of saving lives in disaster situations.

SUSAN CURRIER VISITING PROFESSOR LEAVES HER MARK AT CAL POLY

During her two-quarter residence with Cal Poly’s Women’s & Gender Studies (WGS) Department, Jody Lisberger inspired students to think of personal concerns and social issues in new and provocative ways. Lisberger, the 2013-14 Susan Currier Visiting Professor for Teaching Excellence, spent fall and winter quarters teaching and expanding Cal Poly’s understanding of issues concerning perceptions of gender and women.
