SLO International Film Festival Documentary to be Screened March 7 at Cal Poly

As part of the 20th annual San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, Cal Poly will host a reception, screening and discussion of the documentary “If You Build It” from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, March 7, on the Cal Poly campus in the Business Building (No. 3), Room 213. 

Cal Poly Debate Team Champions in Hawaiian Tournaments

The Cal Poly Debate Team has returned from their tournaments in Hawaii, held Feb. 14 and 16, with several wins. Cal Poly debaters Bryan Pride and Ryan Curtain were named champions of both Hawaii Pacific University's Hawaii Cup Debate Tournament and the University of Hawaii's Pan-Pacific Universities Debate Tournament. Alongside these successes, Cal Poly debaters Minnal Kunnan and Andre’ Fontana earned semifinalist awards at both events. These wins position the Cal Poly Debate Team as a formidable participant in the World Parliamentary Debate Format.

University Art Gallery Explores Computer-Generated Art in ‘Digital Media Now’

Opening Reception Set for Feb. 21

Cal Poly’s University Art Gallery, in conjunction with the Computer Science Department, will exhibit computer-generated artwork created by graduate students from Cal Poly, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and UC Santa Cruz. Titled “Digital Media Now,” the exhibit will open with a reception at 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, and will be displayed through March 14. 

Cal Poly to Screen Italian-Ghanaian Filmmaker’s Documentary March 7

Italian-Ghanaian filmmaker, producer and activist Fred Kuwornu will visit Cal Poly for a screening of his documentary “18 IUS SOLI” from 4:10 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 7, in the Baker Center for Science and Mathematics (Building 180), Room 101. A conversation with the filmmaker will follow the screening.

Australian Musical Duo to Give Free Recital March 12 at Cal Poly

Cal Poly to Present Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ Feb. 27-March 8

Cal Poly’s Theatre & Dance Department will present a production of William Shakespeare’s classic “As You Like It” on two consecutive weekends, Feb. 27-March 1, and March 6-8, in the Spanos Theatre on campus. Evening performances will be at 8 p.m. on all production days, and a 2 p.m. matinee is planned for Saturday, March 8.

Study Urges Industry to Reconsider Vertical Markets

The Graphic Communication Institute at Cal Poly (GrCI) published a new report that reveals preferred methods of delivery based on the type of communication. The findings also suggest that industry should focus on what the study terms “media verticals” rather than “market verticals.”
