Australian Musical Duo to Give Free Recital March 12 at Cal Poly
The Australian-based musical pair HD Duo will present a free saxophone and piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the Pavilion of the Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center.
HD Duo features saxophonist Michael Duke and pianist David Howie. The duo collaborates with some of Australia’s most prominent and respected composers by commissioning, recording and performing new works written specifically for them. HD Duo is frequently featured at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where they met. They also perform regularly across Australia and around the world, most recently in England, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Scotland, Thailand, and the U.S.
The one-hour recital will feature works written for saxophone and piano by Matthew Orlovich, Fernande Decruck, Paul Stanhope, Katy Abbott, and Matthew Hindson. The recital will also include a special performance of Jennifer Higdon’s “Lullaby,” in which the duo will be joined by Laura Kramer, the classical saxophone instructor at Cal Poly and a frequent performer and teacher throughout Southern California.
The event is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. It is sponsored by Cal Poly's College of Liberal Arts, Music Department, and Instructionally Related Activities program. For more information, call the Music Department at 805-756-2406.
