What is your favorite class/student moment?
Seeing students get published for the first time or when my letter of recommendation helps a student achieve a goal.
What is a fact about you that few know?
I’m a dual citizen. My parents are both American, but I was born in New Zealand, which means I’m a NZ citizen by birth and American citizen by “acquisition.” I also spent my junior year of college on exchange there.
How/why did you choose to work at Cal Poly?
Growing up in San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly always seemed like a special place. After completing my master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri, I moved back to SLO and answered an ad in the paper for a part-time lecturer. The rest is history.
What are your research/scholarly pursuits?
Technology and communication (virtual reality, drones, content management, native advertising).
What is/has been your favorite class to teach?
I enjoy all my classes, but advising student media is definitely the most exciting and fulfilling part of my job.
What is one thing you wish your students knew about you?
That most of them leave a lasting impact.
What are your hobbies/extracurricular activities?
Surfing, Ultimate Frisbee and photography/video.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could bring one book, what would it be?
Prince of Tides
Do you have a favorite getaway location?
The ocean.
What is/are your guilty pleasure(s)?
Brown ale.
