Cal Poly Faculty Bass Recital Rescheduled for Nov. 6

Cal Poly Music Department faculty member and string bassist Ken Hustad will present a recital with pianist Paul Woodring at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in the Davidson Music Center (Building 45), Room 218, on campus.

The recital, originally slated for Oct. 9, will feature Russian music for the double bass, including works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Sergey Koussevitzky, Reinhold Glière, and Dmitry Shostakovich.

In addition to teaching bass at Cal Poly and Cuesta College, Hustad is a studio musician and also performs regularly in classical, jazz and commercial groups. He is co-principal bassist with the San Luis Obispo Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Festival Mozaic Orchestra and Tolosa Strings. He is also the low-strings coach for the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony.

Woodring has worked with some of America’s finest concert choirs and opera companies, including the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and the Los Angeles Opera Company. At Cal Poly, Woodring is the university organist and a staff accompanist for the Music Department.

Admission to the recital is $5 at the door. The event is sponsored by Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts and Music Department.

Cal Poly enforces parking regulations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. Visitors can pay to park in metered zones or purchase general parking permits for use in general parking areas only. The Grand Avenue parking structure is recommended. The parking lot south of the Performing Arts Center is closed because of construction.
