Cal Poly Launches Online Printed Electronics and Functional Imaging Professional Certificate

Cal Poly will launch an online Printed Electronics and Functional Imaging Professional Certificate Program beginning Sept. 22.

Designed for working professionals, the program is comprised of five courses to be offered in a sequence that allows the entire certificate program to be completed in 12 months. Courses can also be taken on an individual basis to cater to student interest.

Cal Poly and University of Munich Collaboration Wins International Award

Students from Cal Poly and the University of Munich Applied Sciences won the Freestyle Demonstrator award at the 2014 Large-Area, Organic & Printed Electronics Convention (LOPE-C) for their collaboration on the printed electronics project “Flexible Timer for Rough Environments.”

Cal Poly Graphic Communication Students Win Technical Writing Competition

Cal Poly graphic communication students Mallory Mize and Hannah Stombler-Levine won first and second place, respectively, in the 2014 GEF/Flint Group Technical Writing Competition.

Mize’s first-place paper is titled, “Cylinder Engraving Methods and Print Quality.”  Stombler-Levine was honored for her work, “Potential Areas of Growth in Rotogravure.” Both essays were developed in Cal Poly’s course Web Offset and Gravure Printing Technologies taught by graphic communication Professor Kevin Cooper.

Cal Poly’s 2014 ‘Great Grads’ Make Their Mark on the World

In June, Cal Poly will graduate approximately 4,200 men and women who are uniquely prepared to tackle today’s tough challenges. This year the university is highlighting six “great grads” who will use the university’s Learn by Doing philosophy to solve complex 21st century problems, including streamlining efficiencies in airplane manufacturing, effectively delivering water to crops, and improving business processes.

Cal Poly Graduate Student Wins University's Academy of American Poets Award

English graduate student Jonathan Maule won Cal Poly’s Academy of American Poets Contest for his poem “Repurposed.”

The New York City based-Academy of American Poets, a longstanding advocate for the art of poetry, established its University and College Poetry Prize program in 1955 to recognize students' talent. Since 1988, Cal Poly has held the annual contest, open to all university majors.

Cal Poly anthropology and geography student Troy Lawson placed first in the Professional Digitally Displayed Cartographic Award competition for his project “Historical Mapping for the City of San Luis Obispo.”
