English Department Letter to Students 2021-22
April 4, 2022
Dear English Students,
Below, you will find information regarding how your College-Based Fees were spent during the 2021-2022 academic year. As the CLA explains, “The College Based Academic Fee (CBF) is a mandatory fee, approved by a vote of the students, that is one portion of the overall registration costs each student pays to enroll at Cal Poly. A quarterly fee is assessed each student in the College of Liberal Arts to help support and enhance instructional programs in each of the departments in the college.”
The College of Liberal Arts fee is $648.00 per academic year, and this money is sent directly to the departments.
As a result of a student vote, our department’s CBF funds were used to purchase seats for English students in the following classes during the current academic year:
- ENGL 145: Writing Arguments
- ENGL 251: Introduction to Classical Literature
- ENGL 345: Women Writers of the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries
- ENGL 347: African American Literature
- ENGL 381: Diversity in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century American Literature
- ENGL 382: LGBT Literature and Media
- ENGL 387: Fiction Writing
- ENGL 388: Poetry Writing
If you have any questions regarding the college-based fee process, please contact me.
Sincerely, Dr. Brenda Helmbrecht Associate Chair, English Department CBF committee members: All English Majors
