Your career starts here

Publish from day one

Mustang Media Group is student staffed and student run, and they are hiring every semester. The bylines, the airtime and the client work are yours from the start, and so is the responsibility that comes with them.

Mustang Media Group

One award-winning organization, four ways in. Most students work across more than one of them before they graduate, and that range is what makes the experience worth more than any single title on a resume.

Mustang News

Cal Poly's award-winning newspaper publishes around 20 issues a year. You report on deadline, edit copy, shoot photos and design pages. The same work runs the Advanced News Reporting Practicum, so it counts toward your degree while it fills your portfolio. Contributors become section editors here every year.

MustangNews.net

A fully integrated platform covering news, arts, sports and opinion, so you are never stuck in one format. A story can be written, shot, recorded or visualized, and deciding which it needs is part of the job. You also watch an audience respond in real time, which is its own skill.

Mustang News Television

An on-campus broadcast lab producing a live 30-minute newscast every week. You rotate through every role: producing, anchoring, reporting, shooting, editing and the control room. It is also the backbone of the Advanced Broadcast Journalism Practicum. Live television teaches faster than any classroom assignment can.

Mustang News Public Relations

MNPR, formerly Central Coast PRspectives, is a student-managed PR firm with real clients, real budgets and real deadlines. You handle strategy, research, media relations and execution, then answer for the results. It runs through the Senior Project: Public Relations Practicum, so your capstone is a campaign that shipped.

KCPR 91.3 FM

An FCC-licensed station broadcasting 24 hours a day across San Luis Obispo County and streaming at kcpr.org. Students program the music and produce daily newscasts through Broadcast News. Radio teaches writing for the ear and holding an audience with your voice alone. Cal Poly Radio Laboratory makes it count toward your degree.

PRSSA

Our chapter has run since 2006, bringing working communicators in for workshops and sending members to national conferences. The real value is the room: PRSSA is where you meet the person who refers you for your first job. Open to anyone, not only Public Relations students.
