What We Study 

We provide a professional undergraduate program that prepares students to gather, create and communicate information in a rapidly changing media landscape. Students build skills in reporting, writing, public relations, media law, ethics, multimedia storytelling and responsible communication, grounded in a broad liberal arts education.

Mission and Values 

Our mission is to provide excellence in education on the fundamental concepts, values and skills of journalism, with a focus on problem solving, critical thinking, innovation and communication. Our program also promotes an understanding of the ethical and legal implications of media and the importance of cultural and intellectual diversity, civic engagement and social responsibility.

Learn by Doing From the Start 

The numerous technical, skills-based classes in journalism are intensely hands-on. Student work is project-based and real world. The curriculum integrates broadcast, print, internet, mobile and social platforms so students can use current storytelling tools and experiment with emerging technologies.

We are a fully accredited journalism program recognized by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. The department is known for an integrated approach to student media and for preparing graduates who can hit the ground running in a changing profession.
