International Education Week Nov. 14-17
This week is International Education Week and the Cal Poly International Center has organized events throughout the week.

Thanksgiving Schedule
Monday through Friday, Nov. 21-25, is an academic holiday, and the university will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25. Weekly Announcements will resume on Monday,Nov. 28.

WGS Newsletter Now Available
The Women’s and Gender Studies Newsletter is now available to read online.

CSU Student Research Competition Entries Needed
Cal Poly will host the 31st Annual CSU Student Research Competition on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29, 2017. The College of Liberal Arts must submit its
prioritized list of nominees by January for Cal Poly’s preliminary internal competition in February. Because the preliminary rounds are so close to the start of winter quarter, please encourage students to think about preparing entries this quarter. Spring 2016 graduates are also eligible. Specific dates for submitting proposals to the CLA Dean's office will be announced soon. Learn more about the nomination process.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Photojournalist Don Bartletti
5 – 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14

LA Times photojournalist Don Bartletti will present “The Roads Most Traveled: Causes & Consequences of Illegal Immigration.” These photo essays display real-life circumstances and life-changing decisions that define the causes and consequences of illegal immigration. Through the years, Bartletti has chronicled the saga of Central American children riding freight trains through Mexico as well as investigated the abuse of migrant workers on Mexican farms that export to the U.S. 

An Evening with David Sedaris (Cal Poly Arts)

Join celebrated author and NPR personality David Sedaris for another evening of satirical musings and monologues, as well as readings from his new work, “Theft by Finding.” Contains adult content; recommended for ages 17-43;. Learn

Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba: ‘Cuba Vibra!’ (Cal Poly Arts)
7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15
Cohan Center, PAC (Bldg. 6)
Direct from Havana, this dance group promises a fun night, fusing flamenco with the grace of classical ballet and passionate contemporary Afro-Cuban dance. This ensemble of dancers, musicians and a bandstand vocalist will transport viewers to the heart of Cuba through the ages. Learn more.

‘COSI’ Continues
8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Nov. 15-17
Spanos Theatre (Bldg. 44)
Lewis, a recent university graduate, is hired to direct a non-musical version of Mozart’s “Cosi fan Tutte” at a psychiatric institution. The play is set in 1971, and patients strive to produce their show against the backdrop of Vietnam War protests. Learn more.

University Art Gallery Opens Time[scape]lab’s ‘Confabulatores Nocturni’
5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16
University Art Gallery (Bldg. 34), Room 171
Time[scape]lab is made up of architects Brian and Katherine Ambroziak and Andrew McLellan, who’s work features a combination of writing and collage paired with the structure expected from architects. The University Art Gallery is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday except when otherwise stated. Learn more.

Neko Case Concert (Cal Poly Arts)
7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17
Cohan Center, PAC (Bldg. 6)
Neko Case, indie musician and former member of the Canadian indie rock group The New Pornographers comes will perform some of her classic songs. Learn more.

‘Present Tense: The Book as Art in the Digital Age’ with Lisa Occhipinti
Noon – 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17
Kennedy Library (Bldg. 35), Café Lounge, 2nd floor

In a collaboration with SLOMA, the Special Collections and Archives will host a lecture and discussion with book artist, sculptor and photographer, Lisa Occhipinti. The event will include a pop-up exhibit of hand-selected books and is open to the public. Additionally, Occhipiniti’s work will be exhibited at SLOMA from Nov. 18 to Jan. 29. Graduate Student Resource Fair
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Join the library staff to learn about resources available to graduate students. Coffee, cookies and a limited number of t-shirts will be available. The fair will also feature a
special presentation, “Let’s Talk Thesis,” by Dr. Erica Rogers at 11:30 a.m.

Acclaimed vocalist Rhiannon Giddens infuses African-American string band traditions with new vitality, celebrating sounds of folk, jazz, gospel and blues. Cajun/Creole instrumentalist Dirk Powell joins her for an acoustic evening of song and sound. Learn
