Cal Poly Music Department Announces 2016-17 Event

The Cal Poly Music Department will start its 2016-17 season with the Cal Poly Choirs’ Fall Concert at 8 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 29, in Harman Hall of the Performing Arts Center's Christopher Cohan Center.

Music Professor Thomas Davies will celebrate his final year as director of choral activities and vocal studies with a “Year of Thanksgiving”
concerts. The Oct. 29 concert is aptly titled “New Beginnings … New Horizons.”

Additional season highlights will include faculty member John Astaire performing his first solo percussion recital Nov. 4 in the PAC Pavilion.
The recital will feature works by modern composers Iannis Xenakis and Louis Andriessen, plus Poul Ruders’ “Towards the Precipice,” a rarely performed piece that Astaire called “massively intense.”

Additional fall events will include:

• Nov. 13 – Bandfest 2016: “American Masters”
• Dec. 2 – Fall Jazz Concert
• Dec. 3 – “A Christmas Celebration” Choir Concert
• Dec. 4 – Symphony Fall Concert: “Rachmaninov and Dvořák”
• Dec. 10 – Katherine Arthur, Soprano, and Paul Woodring, Piano

W. Terrence Spiller will usher in the new year with a solo piano recital Jan. 13, followed by Bach Week Jan. 17–22.

Tickets for Music Department events are on sale at the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To order by
phone, call SLO-4TIX (756-4849). Patrons receive a 10 percent discount when buying season tickets to four Music Department events through the Cal Poly Ticket Office; a 15 percent discount is offered on tickets to five or more events.

All events are sponsored by Cal Poly’s Music Department and the College of Liberal Arts. Several are also sponsored by the Instructionally Related Activities program.

Cal Poly Parking Information

Cal Poly enforces parking regulations 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. During those times, visitors can pay to park in metered zones or purchase general parking permits for use in general parking areas only. The Grand Avenue parking structure is recommended. Parking spaces in the lot south of the Performing Arts Center are no longer available.
