Noir Saxophone Quartet to Give an Afternoon Performance May 16 at Cal Poly

The Cal Poly Music Department will present a recital by the Noir Saxophone Quartet at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, in Room 218 in the Davidson Music Center (Building 45) on campus.

Based in Los Angeles, the Noir Saxophone Quartet was formed in May 2013. Lee Worley Raby, Laura Kramer and Cameron Domingues will perform on soprano, tenor and baritone saxophones. They attended USC’s Thornton School of Music and have worked together in various musical capacities, including chamber ensembles, orchestras, wind ensembles, recording sessions, and new music performances.

The quartet’s newest member is alto saxophonist Nicolas Casillas, a graduate of UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music, who joined the group in January 2014.

Their repertoire includes everything from Bach to Ellington, featuring standard repertoire and new music written for the saxophone quartet idiom.

“As saxophonist-educators, we blend artistry to create a unique and captivating ensemble,” said Kramer, who teaches saxophone at Cal Poly. She will perform as guest artist at the Cal Poly Wind Bands’ June 5 Spring Concert, and one of her compositions will have its world premiere then.

The May 16 Noir Quartet performance will include music written for saxophone quartet by David Maslanka, Tim Davies, J.S. Bach and Eugène Bozza.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The recital is sponsored by Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts and Music Department. For more information, call the Music Department at 805-756-2406.
