Valentine’s Week Poetry Reading to Feature Diverse Love Poems
The editors of the literary journal Byzantium will hold their annual poetry reading fundraiser, LoverSpeak, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the Baker Center for Science and Mathematics, Room 101.
Always a raucous event, the reading features student and faculty poets presenting their own verse on the ecstasies and vagaries of romantic love. An inexpensive and casual program that may serve as a Valentine’s date option, the reading offers traditional love poems as well as comic poems — and some that are decidedly critical of romance. Audiences have found themselves entertained by work that ranges from hilarious to erotic, from earnest to cynical.
Students who wish to read should submit no more than two poems to the editors. Readers are limited to no more than four minutes each. Editors will contact those chosen to read least 48 hours before the event.
Admission is $2 for Cal Poly students and $3 for the public.
