English Department Announces 2014 Academy of American Poets Contest
It’s April — a month when sun, baseball and daylight saving time release the lyric spirit. That’s why April is National Poetry Month. And in its honor, the 2014 Academy of American Poets contest for the Cal Poly campus will begin accepting submissions on Tuesday, April 22.
An off-campus, nationally published poet or literary critic will judge the contest, which offers a $100 award for the winner. The judge has the option to pick an honorable mention.
The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m. Friday, May 2. Email poems to the English Department with “Academy of American Poets Contest” as the subject line.
All Cal Poly students who are registered during spring quarter are eligible. Students should submit a maximum of five poems totaling no more than 300 lines. Previous winners are eligible, but winning poems from the Al Landwehr Creative Writing Contest or previous Academy of American Poets contests may not be submitted.
The contest is sponsored by the Cal Poly English Department.
