Cal Poly Symphony, Guest Artists to Perform Operatic Highlights Dec. 7

The Cal Poly Symphony and soprano Ciera Lamborn and tenor Christopher Campbell will perform what is considered to be some of the greatest opera music ever written at its Fall Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in Harman Hall in the Performing Arts Center's Christopher Cohan Center.

Titled “Symphony at the Opera,” the concert will begin with three orchestral works: Wagner’s overture to “Die Meistersinger,” Rossini’s overture to “The Barber of Seville” and Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Bacchanale” from “Samson and Dalilah.”

Both guest artists will perform solo arias from Puccini operas. Lamborn will sing “Vissi d’arte” from “Tosca,” and Campbell will sing one of opera’s best-known tenor arias: “Nessun dorma!” from “Turandot.”

After intermission, the guest artists will perform the first act of Puccini’s “La Bohème,” from the moment when the two lovers Mimì and Rodolfo meet.

Tickets to the concert are $14 and $18 for the public and $9 and $14 for senior citizens and students. Pricing includes all Performing Arts Center fees, and event parking is sponsored by the PAC. Tickets are sold at the Performing Arts Ticket office between noon and 6 p.m. Tuesdaythrough Saturday. To order by phone, call SLO-4TIX (756-4849).

A 10 percent discount is given to patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events through the Performing Arts Ticket Office; a 15 percent discount is given on tickets to five or more events.

The concert is sponsored by the Cal Poly Music Department, College of Liberal Arts, and the Tevis Fund for Visiting Artists. For more information, call the Music Department at 805-756-2406.
