In Memoriam - David Englund

Professor Emeritus David Lowell Englund died Aug. 10, 2013, in Atascadero from complications related to Parkinson’s disease. He was 79. He joined the Cal Poly faculty in 1973 and served as chair of the Child Development Department from 1974–1980.

He developed and taught a curriculum in Lifespan Human Development, and he particularly enjoyed working with an exchange program that he created between Cal Poly and Iwaki University in Japan. Englund retired in 2005. He was an avid surfer, making the semifinals of the International Surfing Championships in Hawaii and last road a wave in 2011 at the place he learned to surf, Waikiki Beach. A memorial service will be held at the Cayucos Vets Hall at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22.
