Deadline for Cuba Alternative Break: March 10 

The Center for Service in Action will host the first-ever service trip to Cuba as part of it’s Alternative Breaks program. The program will run from June 18 to June 25, 2016 and will involve working with schools, food access and community infrastructure. Applications are available online and are due Thursday, March 10. Space is limited. 

 

Open House T-shirt Design Competition

Send to students: Design a T-shirt for the CLA print-your-own-shirt activity at Open House in April. The winner will receive a prize of $300! Submit a one-color design that appeals to both incoming students and alumni. Design for an 8 x 10 inch space. Submit a low-resolution version of your design to cla@calpoly.edu by Friday, March 18. Include “T-shirt Design” in the subject line. If your design is chosen, you will need to provide a vector image for reproduction. A committee of CLA representatives will choose the winner, and you will be notified by Friday, March 25.

 

Reminder: Student-Run Printing, Designing Available

University Graphic Systems is a student-managed, student-operated commercial printing and digital imaging enterprise located in the Graphic Arts Building (No. 26, Room 212A). UGS is part of the Graphic Communications Department and offers a variety of services including printing, logo design, and bindery. Learn more. 

 

Learn by Doing Scholar Award Application Period Open 

The Learn by Doing Scholar Award Application period is open until March 21. This faculty award celebrates the scholarship or teaching and learning by honoring outstanding contributions to Learn by Doing. The award recognizes both a published work and a work in progress with prizes of $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. The recipients are selected by a committee of tenured faculty representing every college. Tenure-track and non-tenure-track may apply. For more information, visit the Kennedy Library Website

‘Building Community in the Classroom’ Workshop Lead by Gilda Ochoa

Gilda Ochoa, the 2015-2016 Susan Currier Visiting Professor, will lead a workshop emphasizing the concrete strategies for fostering dialogical, student-centered and feminist classroom spaces. Hal Holbrook – ‘Mark Twain Tonight’ (Cal Poly Arts)

Hal Holbrook has been inhabiting Mark Twain on stage for more than 60 years. A pre-show lecture by SLO County Library’s Kay Rader will take place at 6 p.m. in the PAC Pavilion. Learn more.
