Cal Poly June 6 Symphony to Perform Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5; Flutist Suzanne Duffy to be Featured

The Cal Poly Symphony will perform its season finale at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 6, in Harman Hall in the Performing Arts Center's Christopher Cohan Center.

Susan DuffyThe centerpiece of the concert is a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, a monumental work that is as emotionally powerful as it is musically unified by the idea of human fate, said David Arrivée, the ensemble’s director.

The first half of the program will also include Mikhail Glinka’s overture to “Russlan and Ludmilla” and Charles Griffes’ “Poem for Flute and Orchestra,” featuring Suzanne Duffy, flutist and music faculty member.

Duffy is principal flute for Symphony of the Vines and second flute/piccolo for Opera Santa Barbara. She has performed with Opera San Luis Obispo, the Palm Beach Opera, Santa Barbara Symphony, Florida Philharmonic, and the New World and Indianapolis Symphonies.

Tickets to the concert are $12 and $14 for the public, and $9 and $12 for seniors and students. Pricing includes all Performing Arts Center fees, and event parking is sponsored by the PAC.
