Cal Poly to Present Bandfest on Dec. 6

Nearly 300 students will perform at Cal Poly’s annual Bandfest at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, in Harman Hall in the Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center.

The concert will feature Cal Poly’s Wind Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and the Mustang Marching Band in an evening of bold and powerful works for the modern wind band and the traditional stadium marching band.

The Wind Orchestra will perform “Alleluia! Laudamus Te” by Alfred Reed, “On This Bright Morning” by David Maslanka, and Robert Jager’s “Third Suite.”

The Wind Ensemble will continue the concert with performances of “Ecstatic Fanfare” by Steven Bryant, “October” by Eric Whitacre, “Angels in the Architecture” by Frank Ticheli and “The ‘Gum-Suckers’ March” by Percy Grainger.

The Wind Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble will combine forces with a work especially suited to a concert band of more than 135 performers: Tchaikovsky's “1812 Overture.”

The Mustang Band will conclude the concert with arrangements they are performing at this fall’s football games in Spanos Stadium. Along with traditional favorites, the band will perform popular hits such as Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” and music from the James Bond and “Mission Impossible” movies.

Tickets to the concert are $12 and $14 for the public and $9 and $12 for students. Pricing includes all Performing Arts Center fees; event parking is sponsored by the PAC. Tickets are sold at the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To order by phone, call SLO-4TIX (805-756-4849).

A 10 percent discount is given to patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events through the Cal Poly Ticket Office; a 15 percent discount is given on tickets to five or more events.

Bandfest is sponsored by Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts, Music Department, and Instructionally Related Activities program. For more information, call the Music Department at 805-756-2406.
