Open House April 14-16

Cal Poly’s Open House will welcome admitted students to campus beginning Thursday, April 14. CLA is hosting several events, including hands-on activities on Saturday, April 16. Check out the full schedule for more information.

Spring Career Fair April 13 & 14

The Spring Career Fair takes place Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Recreation Center Main Gym. Positions and companies are listed on MustangJOBS when logged in through the Cal Poly Portal.

The Living Library Exhibit Opens April 12

April 12 – June 3

Kennedy Library (Bldg. 35), 2nd Floor Commons

“The Living Library” exhibit showcases Cal Poly’s united efforts toward sustainability and resilience within all practices. The natural world is brought inside Kennedy Library through an eco-lawn, a living wall, and green space designed by Cal Poly’s Horticulture Club. The centerpiece of this event is a sculptural interpretation of the Cal Poly Mustang made of reclaimed materials, which was created with collaboration between Poly alumnus Ivan McLean and Architecture Engineering students lead by Professor Craig Baltimore.

Out of the Box: Undergraduate Research in the University Archives

April 13 – July 8

Kennedy Library (Bldg. 35), Special Collections and Archives (4th Floor)

This exhibit features the voices of first-year History students who researched Cal Poly History in HIST 100. This will also include a curated selection of primary sources from University Archives that students used in their research of the period of the World Wars at Cal Poly.

April 14 – May 13

University Art Gallery, Dexter Building (No. 34)

The 2016 Annual Juried Student Exhibition will open on Thursday,

April 14 with a reception in the gallery at 5 p.m. Photography, video, painting, drawing, graphic design and sculpture work will fill the gallery space as the department showcases the diverse creative abilities of students. The University Art Gallery is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Open House Concert

8 p.m. Friday, April 15

PAC (Bldg. 6), Harman Hall

The Cal Poly Symphony, the University Jazz Band and the Cal Poly Wind Ensemble will perform a wide variety of music at this year’s open house concert. Learn more here.

Open House Recital

2 p.m. Saturday, April 16

Davidson Music Center (Bldg. 45), Room 218

Student vocalists and instrumentalists will perform a varied repertoire that illustrates different genres and styles. This event is free and open to the public.

Campbell Brothers – John Coltrane’s ‘A Love Supreme’ (Cal Poly Arts)

8 p.m. Saturday, April 16

Spanos Theatre (Bldg. 44)

On the 50th anniversary of Coltrane’s album, the Campbell Brothers were commissioned to revisit the album with their signature sacred steel gospel style and church choir infusion. The Brothers will also perform selections from their traditional sacred steel repertoire. There will be a pre-show lecture in the Phillips Lecture Hall at 7 p.m. lead by Cal Poly music professor Paul Rinzler. Learn more here.

All-State Music Festival Concert

2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 17

PAC (Bldg. 6), Harman Hall

Some of the state’s best high school musicians will take center stage at this event, which has been sponsored by Cal Poly’s Music Department since 1993. This festival also features a Festival Jazz Band and a Festival Wind Orchestra. Learn more here.
