Cal Poly offers two early childhood programs for families in the Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo communities. Both programs provide nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environments with experienced early childhood educators.

Research-Informed Learning Environments

Both the Preschool Learning Lab (PLL) and the ASI Children's Center (ASICC) feature highly-qualified childhood professionals and low teacher counts to offer the community a nurturing experience , while advancing the preparation of future educators.

Preschool Learning Lab

ASI

Orfalea Family & ASI Children’s Center

Operated by the Psychology & Child Development Department

Designed for: children ages 3–5.

  • Hours: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday
  • Schedule: Year-round, following the academic calendar
  • Location: Room 125, Math and Science Building (No. 38)
  • Enrollment priority: Cal Poly faculty and staff families, followed by community families

The Preschool Learning Lab provides a warm, nurturing, play-based preschool environment that supports children’s development and learning.

PLL Enrollment

A Cal Poly program ran by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI)

Designed for: 4 months through TK.

  • Hours: 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Monday–Friday
  • Schedule: Academic year; summer and academic-break hours vary
  • Location: Orfalea Family and ASI Children’s Center (No. 133)
  • Enrollment priority: Cal Poly students, followed by faculty/staff, alumni and community families

Programs include infant/toddler care, preschool and transitional kindergarten, with learning experiences centered on children’s interests, exploration and development.

ASI Enrollment

Families of Cal Poly students, faculty and staff, alumni, and members of the San Luis Obispo community may be eligible, depending on the program and available space. Enrollment priorities and age requirements vary by program. Contact the program directly to learn about current availability and enrollment.
