College Based Fees Letter to Students 2012-13

March 13, 2013

History Department College-Based Fees, 2012-2013

For the 2012-13 academic year, budgetary shortfalls required that the entirety of History Department’s college-based fee funds be used to pay for courses. Following the recommendations of the department’s CBF committee, this money has been used to pay for 14 classes in high demand among our majors.

The committee conferred electronically during the week of March 9, 2013. Committee members reviewed the department’s CBF expenditures and fall 2012 report, which highlighted student desire for G.E. Area F (HIST 354) and 400-level non-European/non-U.S. history classes. These continue to be areas of high priority for our majors.

The History Department College-Based Fee Committee consists of five student members and the faculty advisor. The students who have served on the committee this year are:

  • Cassie Bayer, class of 2013
  • Gabrielle Bradford, class of 2014
  • Alex Fopma, class of 2014
  • Wyatt Oroke, class of 2013
  • John Hays, M.A. student

Student members are elected during the spring quarter of the previous academic year. In April 2013, a call for self-nominations will go out to history majors. After all nominations are collected, history majors will vote electronically for their representatives on the CBF committee. Up to two of the positions will be reserved for current or previous committee members, in order to retain some continuity, and one spot will be reserved for a graduate student.

Sincerely,

Kate Murphy, Assistant Professor

History Department
