| Sidwall profile from STU 2 at CA-MNT-2181 |
Soils at this site were very similar to the non-midden soils on the periphery of adjacent CA-MNT-910. Three variants were identified as Strata I, II, and II although these were all minor variants of the same basic culturally sterile soil. Stratum I, occupying the upper 25 cm in the STU adjacent to BRM Feature B, was described as a homogeneous dark brown silty loam with 50% gravel. Beneath that, Stratum II was a mottled gray brown silty loam with gravel between 25 and 40 cm below the surface. In the bottom of the northern half of the STU was Stratum III, a lighter gray brown silty loam with larger rocks.
Features within the overall boundaries of CA-MNT-2181 were limited to two groups of BRMs: Features A and B (see below). Feature A included a total of five mortar cups spread among three large sandstone boulders in the north central portion of the site. Feature B was situated on the southern edge of the site. It contained six mortar cups a 10-m long outcrop.
