I. Thesis or purpose of your siteÑ What do want your audience to learn?

a. Statement of purpose, either explicit on the top page, or implicit but easy for user to determine,  see for example,  http://polyland.lib.calpoly.edu/overview/ThisProject/index.html

b. Everything on the site supports this purpose.

c.Items irrelevant to the thesis or purpose

d.Value and validity of this purpose

3

Is the picture on your index page as beautiful and dramatic as you can find.  Purpose is clear.  Order of topics needs revision.

Making the map close to the top is useful.  Each of the named trails needs full description.

All pictures need to be captioned and if possible located on your map.  Please note instructions sent to everyone  file sizes. All your images need resizing

4

Excellent picture. Though caption indicating location on Peterson Ranch is missing. Well thought out statement on home page.  Good sequence of topics. Effective and discreet memorial to Trevor.  File sizes not adjusted.

II. Integration with Cal Poly Land projectÕs  purposes and design format

2

Generally compatible, but needs to show further progress.  Especially given the experience  of loss for your group, it would be appropriate to incorporate a good deal of personal description and reflection on this site.  Hopefully you have some pictures of Trevor on your excursions that can be included.

3.5

Trails. Htm is a weak page.  Fonts are random and page has no content of its own.  Also Mt.Bike Safety.

Most seriousÑthe locations of the pictures and the locations on the map do not correspond in many places. Pictures are not captioned with useful information

BlytheÕs page is a start but more description of the routes and the land resources  affecting your experience  would have helped

III. Extent and Navigation properties

a. Is there enough material to require 5 to 8 minutes for the user to navigate through the site and absorb what it has to offer.

b. Are there clear , consistent, logical and interesting ways to navigate through the site,  for example ÒExplore Cal Poly Land by place or theme or collection using the navigation  bar to the left of every page.  Each of the links there leads to further subdivisionsÓ

2

I like what I see of the pages youÕre setting up.  But each of them should have one or two generous paragraphs of description  that go with the picture and relate to the topic at hand.

3.5

Trail Map and Trail Maps are not distinct enough.  Return navigation from many pages is hard to find.  Extent is good.

Safety section needs lots of work on organization

IV. Quality of Material Presented

a. TextÑclarity, sufficiency, conciseness, elegance, accuracy, including documentation

b. Images or multimedia elements

c. Integrations of text and imagesÑtheir relevance and mutual illumination

2

still in early stages but looks promising

3.

Poly Canyon loop description shows no sign of your having travelled it.  The single track return trip is spectacular and dangerous.

Text on Great Loop is quoted from Field Guide and  must be documented.

Virtual ride is a good start and shows beginning mastery of Photoshop and Dreamweaver  but thereÕs a way to go.
