English 204 A Trip to the Getty

EXCUSE Letter [for printing, if needed]
Meet at Perimeter Drive next to English Building [22] at 10:15 A.M. Bus leaves at 10:30 sharp. Bring King James Bible.
We will make one bathroom and fastfood stop--I recommend packing a lunch.
Arrive at Getty between1:30 and 2:00 p.m. Meet at the upper monorail platform.
Group tour from 2:15 to 4:00
Everybody meet at Cafeteria [lower level of restaurant] at 6:00
Bus leaves for return trip at 7:15.
There is no charge for the bus ride or for admission.
If you are driving, parking is free with Poly ID and no reservations are required. Take 101 south to the Southbound 405--San Diego Freeway--and follow signs to the Getty.

If you find works that you want to add to our tour because of relevance to the class material, please email them to instructor.
Study the items listed below and select three that appeal to you. Relate each to specific passages in works we have read. Do some research on the Getty website and elsewhere to find information about the works, the artists, the circumstances of their production. Be ready to give a detailed description of what you see in the works literally, emotionally and symbolically.
Write up your account of one of the three in a paper of 750 to 1000 words submitted on Monday May 2. Include a printout of the picture from the website or your own photo or a sketch you make of it in the museum. Be sure to include a few sentences about how encountering it in "the flesh" is different from encountering it on a computer.
