GERMANY, 1919 — This year has proven the power of the people of the Fatherland when they stand up together and fight against tyranny and oppression.

1919 marks a new beginning in the historyof the Reich. With our new president, Friedrich Ebert, our Republic embarks on a new path to freedom. The shackles of the monarchy have been broken - the people have spoken! Herr Ebert was elected by a landslide of the volk. A proven statesman, he will guide this proud nation to prosperity such as our Staat has never seen before! The SPD is the choice of the people! We are more than 4.9 million strong and growing every day! Our victories in the first election were truly overwhelming. The SPD won 889 mayoral seats, 7,662 city councilors, and 31,348 communal representatives. This is the beginning of the peaceful and democratic revolution that our people have demanded. We will have freedom! With common sense, the desire to empower the workers, and provide for all our citizens, the SPD has shown why we are the choice of the people. Join a winner — join the SPD!

RIOTS ROCK BERLIN

BERLIN, Dec. 22 — In Berlin unrest is ever growing. The Spart-acide riots continue to occur with more and more frequency. This should not be! Our nation has already been plundered by war - savaged by the foreign invaders. Our women have been ravaged, our elderly victimized and our youth slaughtered. Why must we now do the same to ourselves?

The volk must unite, not tear each other apart! We must rebuild our nation together! We have a new republic, with capable leaders who love the Fatherland. Let us not become like the Bolsheviks and the Russians who have slaughtered each other mindlessly!

Our enemies simply see us from afar and laugh at our follies and misfortune. They have no pity.

The Spartacus League is only leading to the deaths of their fellow Germans with their fanatical actions. They are acting worse than the French because they are killing their own people. They are worse than the English because they are denying their own government to execute the mandate of the people.

We demand that the police be more swift in their action. That the perpetrators of violence be caught and brought to justice and that order is restored to our cities and lives. A nation that cannot live in peace and obey its laws is not deserving of freedom. We are little better than barbarians when we fail to obey our elected leaders.

Finally, we ask our fellow socialists to come back to the fold. A divided house cannot stand. Our enemies are splitting us apart. There are no Majority Socialists or Independent Socialists, only Socialists! Together we can bring prosperity to the workers of our great nation. Together we can create a new, strong, and independent Germany. Together we can usher in an era of equality and justice. But only together. Let us unite again. Peace!

LEADING THE FIGHT SINCE 1875

SLAVERY!

PARIS, Nov.19. — The hostility and open contempt by the victors of the late war for the welfare of the citizens of our nation has been shown once again. The latest display was by the Allied Reparation Commission who denied the United States from becoming equal trading partners with us.

 The unfair Treaty of Versailles, which has enslaved the workers of the Fatherland by placing exorbitant war reparations upon us, is now trying to lead us to economic ruin by denying us the very means to repay that debt. This only shows that the rest of Europe will never be happy until our nation is destroyed, our volk are destitute, and our children become paupers to the Allies. God forbid that!We will fight with all of our power to stave off this treaty. Our people will not tolerate this infringement on our sovereignty. The Commission is world's most powerful financial institution and controls all of our monetary and trade policies. This is simple slavery. At least the Americans were just and offered us a fair chance to pay off the debt, but the European powers are now trying to do with economics what their arms in the field failed to do.		 We seem to be besieged at all sides, but rest assured, the SPD will continue to fight. Socialism is for freedom. Freedom of finances, freedom of worry. Your elected leaders will do there duty in protecting the common interests of the volk!!

 
BEWARE

BERLIN, Nov. 15. — There are those among us who pose a great threat to the Fatherland. People who wish to divide us and make us weak. They are attempting to turn us against each other with hate and make us ripe for conquest.

With lies and falsehoods the Pan-Germans, after failing in the election, now are attempting a coup of the rightly elected government of the German nation.

All true volk must be on guard for this threat. We are one strong people. To hate your fellow volk for superstitious and illogical reasons is not only wrong, but treasonous. Our Socialist creed declares that all workers are equal and deserving of the same rights. All who work must be rewarded fairly. Do not let the hate mongers and capitalists destroy us!
