The "Curve."

The grade of C is to be considered typical for this course, but not necessarily average. I consider 75% to be the ideal average and thus a C. If the average of all students' scores at the end of the quarter is 75% or higher, grades will be assigned on the following scale. A high class average will never increase the percentage necessary fo a grade above the following: A= 90+ % of the total number of points possible; A-=88-89%; B+=86-87%; B= 80-85%; B-=78-79%; C+=76-77%; C =70-75%; C-=68-69%; D+=66-67%; D = 60-65%; D-=58-59%

If the average is lower than 75%, that percentage becomes the top C and other grades will be calculated accordingly. E.g., if the average were 74%, then an A would begin at 89%, an A- at 87%, etc. of the total points possible. Unlike a strict curve, under this system there is no fixed percentage of any one grade. Thus, theoretically, everyone in a class could earn an A if s/he scored a 90% average or above.
