In protest against the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II's violation of religious freedoms granted to Utraquist Protestants by is predecessor, Rudolf II in 1609, the Protestant estates met with agents sent to force conformity with Catholicism on May 23, 1918 and threw them from this window setting off a revolt that began the Thirty Years War.
