An excused absence can be allowed only by the instructor . . . upon consideration of the evidence justifying the absence presented by the student" (Catalog, 83). In accord with R.S. 592 of the Academic Senate, written evidence of medical, family, or academic emergencies; e-mail notification (not voice messages); and missed work are due at the next class session. The grade is pass/fail. To receive credit, you must attend 95% of all classes, so you are allowed two unexcused absences. You are responsible for content of classes missed. To arrive late or leave early for more than 5 minutes, or not bring the text, equals an absence. Since the class involves ongoing conversation, students are encouraged to only speak Italian during class-time. Kindly remain in the same seat There will no make-ups nor extra credit. No late work accepted.

2. Participation: Seeing this is an intensive language class, students are expected to bring the text daily to class. Not bringing it equals 5 points less daily.

3. Homework: Written exercises should be completed from the Workbook, Lab Manual/Video Manual, after that particular chapter has been discussed in class. All corrections should be in a different colored pen and handed in stapled the due date, either at the beginning of class or in my box in the language lab. No late work accepted. Points deducted for missing, unstapled work.

4. Language lab (10, 128): No drinking, even water, or eating, esp. gum, in the lab. No feet on furniture. I recommend you do your practice piecemeal, so as to better assimilate the language. For schedule please see PIRC website: http://cla.calpoly.edu/pirc/

5. Tests: There will be lesson quizzes involving listening comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and writing skills, as well as a final comprehensive test. No make-ups. No extra credit.

6. Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the instructor during office hours to discuss their disability related needs. Use of Disability Resource Center services including testing accommodation, requires prior authorization by the DRC and compliance with procedures.

7. As a student, you are responsible for your own work. The Campus Administrative Manual (Section 684) states: "The University will not condone academic cheating or plagiarism in any form." Cheating and plagiarizing are serious offences and will be dealt with accordingly. Consequences include receiving an F in the course and being reported to Judicial Affairs.
