  This paper is designed as a research paper using Asian art sites available on the World-Wide Web, as well as traditional sources. The purpose of the assignment is to familiarize you with the visual resources available on the Web, to enhance your skills in research, and to aid in developing skills in both visual analysis and communicating ideas in writing. The paper is also designed for those students who want to explore a particular work of art or topic in Asian Art History in great depth.
  Your paper should:

  • Be typed, double-spaced, and 5-10 pages (only!!)
  • Have sources carefully documented with footnotes, endnotes, or parenthetical citations in proper MLA form. (I will deduct points for improper form.)
  • Have a bibliography of at least eight sources, which must have some websites, and must also include books and/or articles and other traditional sources. This bibliography must also be in proper MLA form, or I will deduct points.
  • Have a definite thesis statement. In other words, there should be some specific position that you're taking or theory that you're trying to prove through your research. Your paper should not be a general "report" on a topic or work of art. This thesis should be stated in your introduction, and the body of the paper should develop your argument, utilizing facts gleaned from your research and/or examination of a particular work of art.
  • Include xeroxes of any works of art which you discuss in your paper.
  • Have a definite conclusion which, of course, will state your conclusions.

  Proper organization of paper:

  1. Introduction and thesis

  2. Body of paper with sources cited

  3. Conclusion

  4. Xeroxes of works of arts discussed, which should be labelled with title, other relevant info, and the source from which you took the illustration

  5. Bibliography in proper form

Note: If you intend to do a research paper, start ASAP! Choose your topic and check out our library now.

Out library does not yet have many sources on Asian Art History, and you may need to make extensive use of interlibrary loan.
