Waitlist Policy
Before a quarter begins, rely on the automatic waitlisting function to obtain a seat in one of my classes. I do not maintain separate waiting lists for courses that are enrolled to their maximum. If you wish to add a class that is full, please attend the first full week (ESPECIALLY the first day) of class, and students will be added as enrolled students either do not show up or drop out during the first week. Also, during the first week of classes, you should check CPREG frequently to see whether seats have opened up in the course you want because of drops.
When the automated waitlist closes, my individual add policies and the English Department add policies take priority over the computer-generated waitlist. In general, preference is given to students who can document that they are seniors close to graduation; within this group, English majors have priority over others. I also make a special effort to add students who need a linguistics class in order to enroll in the College of Education graduate program.
An e-mail, phone, or written message sent to me before the first day of class will not put you on a waitlist. You must attend the class on Day 1 and during Week 1.
