Charles Slem is a member of the Psychology and Human Development Department. At Cal Poly since 1975, he has taught a variety of courses and was honored with Cal Poly's Distinguished Teaching Award in 1993, and the Outstanding Teaching Award for the College of Liberal Arts in 2004. Currently he serves on the university's large team-taught introductory psychology course as well as his own smaller (240 student) class.

While his training was originally in clinical psychology, his curiosity has led him into the investigation into advanced manufacturing technologies (including computer integrated manufacturing and concurrent engineering) and the management of technological change.

For the past few years, he has turned his attention to the integration of university course resources via innovative instructional technologies.

Professor Slem is married with three teenage children which accounts for his daily mood swings.
