Goals:  The goals of this course are to introduce students to the lives of Japanese in the city of Tokyo since the end of World War II.  It will not focus on famous places or people but on the lives of ordinary people in the city as affected by changes in Japanese society in the last 50 years.  Changes in neighborhood, family, and individual lives will be explored through a series of lectures, short stories, a novelette, films, animation, and short articles followed by discussion.
