Non-material - ideas, religions, beliefs, customs, laws, economic systems, values

Normative Order

     1. set of values, desirable and undesirable, importance

     2. Norms - should/should not do, appropriate, rules of conduct

    3. Folkways - customary, habitual ways a group does things, etiquette, manners

     4.  Mores - must be obeyed, taboos

     5. laws : prescriptive - required

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

 Ethnocentrism - belief that the norms and values of one’s own culture are superior to those of others and to use these norms as a standard in evaluating other cultures.
 stereotypes

Cultural Relativism - the belief that there is no universal standard of right and wrong and that an aspect of any culture can be judged only within its own context.

Subcultures - distinct groups with different values and practices from the majority.

Countercultures - distinct groups with values and practices that are opposite from the majority.
