Soc 350 Japanese Social Organization: Films
Three films will be shown in class to illustrate some of the issues covered in class:
“Spirited Away”(Anime) It is a full length feature animation by Hayao Miyazaki. It follows the adventures of a young girl into the land of the gods when she and her parents move to a new home.
“Family Game” * This film which stars Junzo Itami looks at some of the problems facing middle class families trying to get their children to study and enter good schools and universities.
“A Taxing Woman Returns” This film by Junzo Itami, as director, follows the adventures of a tax agent (played by Nobuko Miyamoto) as she tried to find tax cheats in a religious organization.
