Terms

The following words are commonly used incorrectly by students in their papers.  It is important to be clear in conveying our meaning to others so please be careful how you use them.
 
 
Believe -  to have faith in, to have confidence or trust in, to rely upon
 - to accept without proof, on someone’s authority 
Feel  - sensation, touch, - physical (cold, hot, tired), - emotional (angry, sad, happy)
Think  - to cogitate, exercise the mind, to conceive in the mind, 
 - to form an idea, to consider, reflect upon
Opine  - to have an opinion, express an opinion, say what one thinks, a judgement, belief of something as probable, express a point of view
Ignore - to refuse to accept or notice, leave out of consideration, to disregard
  - to choose not to know
Ignorance
 -  condition of being ignorant, 
 - lack of knowledge (deliberate)
Myth -  a fictitious narrative involving supernatural persons and actions
 - a way of telling the beliefs of a culture
Fable  - a narrative not founded on fact
 A story devised to teach a lesson
Legend  - a story of the life of a saint or hero, 
- an unauthentic story handed down by tradition
