Web Assignment

Choose any one of the case studies we are looking at this quarter:

and explore current information about these cases on the Web.

Write an annotated bibliography of your website findings. Type, single space. Consult the website Evaluation guide which will be used to grade your paper. Your paper should indicate which case you are exploring, the sites you have found with proper title and URL (Web address), description of the website as to its contents (does it have charts and pictures as well as text) and a brief evaluation of the cite concerning: source and authority, scope and content, purpose and relevance and timeliness and currency. You must include a minimum of ten (10) websites in your bibliography. This is not just 5 pages attached to one site but five different sites. You must also identify the search engine (the program you used to find the sites) (e.g.: Infoseek, Lycos, etc.) you are using. It must follow the format below:

This is also an assignment that asks you to assess information that you receive. You are not to write a report on the topic but to prepare an annotated bibliography which discusses the sources and their reliability. You must have reliable information in order to do any kind of analysis of social life. The web has become an important source of information. The purpose of the assignment is to help you develop a way of assessing good sources and poor sources. Your answers to the questions should be factual information about the site not subjective judgements (terms like : good, fine).

The purpose of this assignment is to help you develop a method for taking notes of websites that provides information about the site not just the contents.  In evaluating the validity and usefulness of a site, certain kinds of information are necessary.  You have learned how to do this for books and also journal articles.  Now you will learn how to do it for websites.  This information is important in helping you decide which websites provide valuable information on topics you have chosen.  So this is meant to be in an outline form so you can easily find the information relevant to each area.  Don't write paragraphs.  Then you will have a record of the sites you have visited and won't have to look them up each time to find out if they are useful sites or not.

Some web sites have more than one webpage. Do not review different pages as different websites. Be sure you know the difference.
