GOALS: The purpose of this couse is to examine the impact of definitions of race and ethnicity on the lives of groups and individuals in different societies around the globe. Case studies illustrating the different patterns and situations that arise from the social construction of race and ethnic identity will form the basis of course lectures and readings.
This course will help students understand the situation facing people in different societies as they deal with issues of group identity. Click here for a reality check.
This course requires classroom participation. Students will be expected to arrive on time for class, to answer questions and participate in discussion and to attend regularly.
