Cal Poly Women’s Awareness

The world is a better place for those who seek to change it...
Message from the founder

“Cal Poly Women’s Awareness is… a humanist club for women, by women. It is a discussion group of women coming together to share and validate their existences and unique experiences… I want women to be informed. I want us to be confident and to stop doubting ourselves. I want us to accept and support each other, and to stop the detrimental competition among women that leaves us feeling like we don’t add up. I want women to feel good about themselves as women, but also, just as people. We are all potential resources' for each other.
-Haley Myers.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a question specific to you and your female peers, and you knew where to go? Welcome to CPWA…”

CPWA was formed in 2001 as a forum for women. In today’s society controversial issues are often avoided and solutions remain unfound. To millions of women around the world, the silence of female voice is unacceptable. CPWA offers meetings in a casual setting which provide information about current events, legislation, and pertinent issues regarding women around the world. As students and faculty, members of the CPWA recognize the value of knowledge and its ability to empower individuals.

Mission Statement

Cal Poly Women’s Awareness seeks to provide information regarding international and controversial women’s issues, thereby allowing members to form a valid opinion, express their concerns, and utilize their talents to become involved in both the community and various worldwide organizations.

Goals and Objectives

1. To inform and educate the student body and community regarding the political, social, and personal environment surrounding women.
2. To help women self identify with the third wave feminist movement.
3. To encourage action locally in order to improve the lives of women globally.
4. To help women develop more confidence and objective judgment regarding their self-image.
5. To provide a supporting atmosphere where women can express their thoughts, opinions, and concerns without fear of rejection or ridicule.
6. To encourage direst and assertive communication. What you feel is not wrong.

Events

During the school year, CPWA holds bi-monthly meetings on campus in addition to socials outside of campus.
CPWA also works with the Women’s Programs, the Multicultural Center, and the Student Community Services as well as the Women’s Studies Minor in volunteering for various events throughout the year.
