SPECIAL ALERT from Cal Poly Information Services

Please advise users in your area to be wary of telephone calls from people claiming to represent Microsoft support.

ALERT - POLYMAIL Email Delivery Ends January 24, 2012

FINAL REMINDER!

When Cal Poly’s email list system was replaced in August 2011, the “polymail” in calpoly.edu addresses was dropped. Messages continued to be delivered to allow time for personal email contacts and address files to be updated.

This grace period is ending. Effective January 24, 2012 emails will NOT be delivered to addresses that include "polymail" in the domain.

Anyone who sent an email to a “polymail” address after August 2011 received a warning message. However, if the sender was not a person then warning messages might not have been seen. ITS also reviewed logs and contacted recipients where high volumes of “polymail” messages were detected.

This is a final reminder to department account owners and technical staff to identify any remaining valid uses of “polymail” email addresses and update or request the address be updated. These uses could include the following:

  • Web sites and forms that include references to “polymail” accounts.
  • On and off campus systems that send to “polymail” accounts such as Facebook, LinkedIn, hosted systems, vendor distribution lists, etc.

Information about Sympa including instructions for updating email addresses in either the Zimbra web client or Outlook are posted at http://servicedesk.calpoly.edu/content/sympa/sympa.

If you have any questions, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 756-7000 or email servicedesk@calpoly.edu.
