Bio

I joined the Political Science Department in Fall 2009 after graduating from Stony Brook University Political Science PhD program. I had my BAs in Political Science and International Relations, and in Management from Bogazici (Bosphorus) University in beautiful Istanbul, Turkey. After an internship at the Council of Europe in the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance I headed to London for MSc in International Political Economy at London School of Economics. After my PhD in the east coast I am now enjoying teaching at Cal Poly and being in California.  Students can find me teaching courses such as Economic and Regulatory Policy, Politics of the Global Economy, and Quantitative Methodology.

Research Interests

My research interests are in the fields of political economy and public policy. I focus on the effects of market reform in public service provision from a comparative perspective, particularly in education. Moreover, I have a growing interest in social networks and political deliberation. How our social networks affect what we think about politics and the sophistication of our thinking is a fascinating research question I pursue in my recent research.
