Dr. Dianne Long, Professor of Political Science and Public Policy, anchors the Public Policy and Administration courses offered in the undergraduate and graduate programs at Cal Poly. These courses explain what government does and what difference it makes. Case studies and practical applications are part of these courses in policy analysis, finance, administrative theory, grant writing, graduate seminar and other offerings in the curriculum as well as courses in general education. As the crafting agent in the Master of Public Policy program, Dr. Long assists in advising graduate students and serves as the coordinator of graduate internships. Internships prepare students for careers in government and nonprofit organizations. Dr. Long's research interests center on social welfare and environmental policy. Recent publications include chapters in The Other World: Issues and Politics of the Developing World, Seventh Edition (Joseph Weatherby, Editor) and the Instructor's Manual to David G. Lawrence's California: The Politics of Diversity, Fifth Edition.
