Dr. Stacey Pearson-Wharton: ‘Being a Person of Color in White Spaces’
6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 Chumash Auditorium (Bldg. 65)
Predominately white colleges and universities have taken many meaningful steps to become more diverse, but many students of color still feel discrimination, social isolation and psychological challenges during their education. This discussion will cover these challenges as well as the joys of being a POC at a white institution through personal stories of success and growth. Pearson-Wharton will offer practical lessons and tools. Food will be provided. 


Twyla Tharp Dance Company – 50th Anniversary Tour (Cal Poly Arts)
7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 Christopher Cohan Center (Bldg. 6). Twyla Tharp, one of the century’s most treasured artists, debuts her new work featuring a hand-chosen cast. Set to music from America’s heartland, the performance moves through folksy tunes from the 1970s to dramatic classical pieces, showcasing the immaculate technique of the dancers. Learn more 


GRC Career Day

Students will have the opportunity meet with companies and perhaps interview with representatives from 1 to 5 p.m. Eleven companies will be represented, recruiting for positions ranging from Design, UX/UI and Web Development to Sales, Print Production and Packaging. Forum for 24th Congressional District Candidates
Doors close at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20
Spanos Theatre (No. 44)
Cal Poly and KSBY-TV (NBC) is hosting a forum for the candidates seeking to represent the 24th Congressional District, Salud Carbajal and Justin Fareed. The candidates will respond to questions supplied from the audience and KSBY's social media platforms. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and seating will be on a first-come basis. Doors will close at 6:15 p.m., and a live broadcast will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. KSBY will broadcast the first hour live on NBC and live-stream the entire event at KSBY.com.

Mustang Family Weekend
Thursday-Sunday Oct. 20-23
This weekend is an opportunity for alumni, parents and supporters to return to campus, visit with students and engage in Learn by Doing activities.


Observe Guest Choreographer Amanda Leise

2 – 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21
Crandall Gym (Bldg. 60), Cal Poly Dance Studio Choreographer Amanda Leise is creating a new Hip Hop work for the Orchesis Dance Company to be performed in their show “Synergy” this January. She will be holding an open rehearsal, in which visitors are invited to observe all or a portion of the rehearsal. For more information, contact Christy Chand.

TEDxCalPoly Event (Sold Out)

PAC (Bldg. 6)
The first TEDxCalPoly, an on-campus “Ted Talk” event organized by Cal Poly students is sold out. Some of the student and faculty speakers are from the College of Liberal Arts. 

‘Wild Kingdom’ with Peter Gros (Cal Poly Arts)
7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22
Christopher Cohan Center (Bldg. 6)
As seen on TV, Peter Gros will enthrall audiences with his multimedia show, featuring a number of co-stars from the animal world live on stage. Some lucky audience members will have the opportunity for an up close and personal meeting. Learn

Mozart Orchestra of New York (Cal Poly Arts)

The Mozart Orchestra of New York performs a diverse repertoire under celebrated American conductor Gerard Schwarz. The performance will feature a program comprised of Mozart’s final three symphonic compositions. Learn
