Cal Poly Faculty Chamber Recital Set for Oct. 30

The Cal Poly Music Department will present a faculty chamber recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, in Room 218 of the Davidson Music Center (Building 45) on campus.

This will be the sixth chamber recital featuring faculty members performing masterworks of chamber music — both beloved gems and lesser-known works.

The concert will open with flutist Suzanne Duffy and pianist Susan Azaret Davies performing Fauré’s “Fantasie” and Lowell Liebermann’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 23.

Mezzo-soprano Jacalyn Kreitzer, pianist Davies and percussionist John Astaire will perform “Field of the Dead,” a movement from Prokofiev’s cantata “Alexander Nevsky,” while the original 1938 Sergei Eisenstein film is projected on screen.

Duffy and guest guitarist James Bishop-Edwards will perform movements from Astor Piazzolla’s “L'histoire du tango.”

Astaire and guest vocalist and Cal Poly music alumna Inga Swearingen will close the concert with a selection of songs.

Admission to the recital is $5 at the door. The event is sponsored by Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts and Music Department.

Cal Poly enforces parking regulations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. Visitors can pay to park in metered zones or purchase general parking permits for use in general parking areas only. The Grand Avenue parking structure is recommended. The parking lot south of the Performing Arts Center is closed because of construction.
