:: Study Abroad ::

Cal Poly sponsors one of the widest variety of study abroad programs within the California State Univesity System. They are often the most affordable options for study abroad programs. Students receive direct credit as matriculated students, and can utilize Cal Poly financial aid packaging for eligible students. We recommend that you discuss these program options with your academic advisor during the process of selecting the program that will allow you to accomplish your academic goals, meet graduation requirements, and internationalize your undergraduate program. Students interested in study abroad should visit the Study Abroad Office (Building 38 - Room 106) to utilize the resource materials. Informational meetings are held each term to provide practical information on planning, applying, and financing your study abroad experience.

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

The International Programs (IP) is the system wide overseas study program of the CSU and enable CSU students to pursue academic and career enhancing studies abroad. IP is affiliated with over 50 distinguished universities and other institutions of higher education in 16 countries where participants pursue coursework for CSU resident credit and offers over 100 designated academic majors. Students pay the same fee amount as typically paid to Cal Poly.

IP's guiding principle is that students should be "immersed" in the academic and living environments in their host countries. Learning the language of the host culture to achieve maximum social integration is always a high priority for IP students. Students are expected to have two years of college language proficiency in the native language of the host country. For further information, check out the Cal Poly International Programs Website . Or you can email the IP Coordinator, Monica Schechter in the IEP Office or call (805) 756-5964.

students in mexico

QUERETARO, MEXICO

Cal Poly's Mexico Study Abroad Program is an affordable way for students to spend four weeks in a Spanish-speaking country during the summer, while earning eight units of Cal Poly credit.  Students study language and culture, and live with a host family.  Cal Poly faculty members will accompany and assist students in Mexico -- and no prior knowledge of Spanish is required. The American and Mexican cultures are inextricably linked, yet we often know little about each other.  Knowing Spanish and understanding the culutre of Mexico and Latin America can greatly aid careers across the board -- education, healthcare, social services, agriculture, business and tourism. The City of Querétaro, blends colonial architecture with modern industry and commerce to form an attractive and welcoming academic atmosphere. The program fee of $2,300-$2350 (depending on your major) includes Cal Poly tuition for 8 units, room and all meals for four weeks with a host family; field trips, health insurance and airport pickup upon arrival in Querétaro at an assigned time.  Airfare, personal expenses, incidentals, passport, textbook and return transportation to the airport at the end of the program are not included.

SUMMER STUDY IN LONDON PROGRAM

Since 1984, over 2,500 students and 140 faculty have participated in the London Study program. The six-week Study in London program is offered during the summer quarter. Students and faculty alike immerse themselves in courses that use London as a laboratory. While planned primarily for general education experiences in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, the program draws students from all majors. Courses are enriched by adjuncts and visiting lecturers from British institutions. It is part of the routine to leave the classroom to experience the art, music, history or architecture. Students take numerous field trips visiting London's concert halls, theaters, museums, cathedrals, and halls of government.

Spending time in London as a student is a truly unforgettable experience. London is one of the world's great cultural and economic centers. The city's modern cosmopolitan identity combines a fascinating past with a present of more than 7 million people living, studying, working and playing in its different areas. The arts, theatre, nightlife, music, and literature are showcased in London.

The Summer Study in London Program director is John Battenburg and he can be contacted at jbattenb@calpoly.edu or at 805.756.2945. The Coordinator of the London Study Program is Miriam Rabban, who can be reached in the IEP office at 805.756.6161 or by email at marabban@calpoly.edu .
