The Cal
Poly Journalism Department keeps close ties with the profession.
It's
important to keep our curriculum current and to give our students the
opportunity to network with working professionals in journalism, broadcasting,
public relations and online media.
Our department has a 35-member Advisory
Board that meets on campus at least once each year. Members of the
Advisory Board visit classes, meet with students, and provide input
to faculty on best practices in the media professions. Recently, the
board helped raise more than $30,000 to fund facilities improvements
for KCPR-FM. Members of the Advisory Board represent such news outlets
as the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle,
and MSNBC. The board also includes public relations practitioners who
own their own firms or work for internationally-known agencies such
as Burston Marsteller.
