Internal Transfer Students
The History Department does not admit transfers on a “provisional” basis. New internal transfers will be admitted only when the following criteria are met:
1. You have a Cal Poly GE GPA of 2.8 or higher, OR you have a Cal Poly cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher for the last two quarters (enrolled full-time). The College of Liberal Arts will not accept a change of major for students on Academic Probation.
2. You have completed at least three History courses at Cal Poly, with a History GPA of 3.0 or higher. (At least one class must be upper-division.)
3. You have completed a Change of Major form (which is available from the Records Office).
4. You have written two paragraphs about yourself and your reasons for wanting to become a History major.
5. You have met personally with the Department Chair.
The History major is "impacted," which means the department must turn away eligible applicants from other institutions or high schools. Consequently, we have high standards for students wanting to transfer to History.
