Much love and thanks to Prof. Debra Valencia-Laver, who so heroically kept the ship afloat from 2002 to 2004 as the Acting Chair of the department. Now she's on to bigger and better things as the new interim Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. You go girl!

Congrats to Prof. Charise Cheney! Her book, Brothers Gonna Work It Out: Sexual Politics in the Golden Age of Rap Nationalism, is soon to be published by New York University Press. Look for it in 2005 in all quality bookstores. We can't wait! For the book and the movie! Charise Cheney is also on leave for AY 2006-07.

We are delighted to welcome Tiffani Nguyen, our new Web site coordinator, to the Ethnic Studies Department. Tiffani is a second year transfer student majoring in Industrial Technology. Thank goodness she's finally here because all of us technology-challenged fogies really need her!
