AGENDA

Account Balances in CBF Budget

Alex Roa headed up the meeting to discuss and vote on the disposition of unspent funds in the CBF budget.  Dr Bohr provided the following account balances:

Travel:            -0-

Senior Project:            $600

General Fund:              $500

Reallocation of Open House Fund

Because the deadline to apply for participation in Open House was not met, a vote was taken to return the allocated funds of $100 back to the general fund.

M/S/P:  Knecht/Neuschafer.  Passed.

Dr. Jones – Proposal

Committee members voted on Dr Jones proposal and request for $600 for the following:

a.      Ant 310 – Transportation and Guest Lecturer costs for this class: $208 to cover a cargo and passenger van to transport equipment and students to field site.  $200 to cover lodging expenses for 2 guest speakers to speak to students at field site.

b.     Camping Trip - $200 to cover costs for food and camping related expenditures for students who will be excavating at Montana del Oro State Park.  Supervised by Terry Jones.

Members voted by secret ballot on the above 2 items.

Results:  7 Yes (both items); 0 Nos.

The Committee voted to move $100 from the senior project fund back into the general fund to cover the $600 approved expenditures for Jones proposal.  Revised balances are:

Senior Projects:            $500

General Fund:    - 0-

CBF Courses – Plans for 2009-2010

Dr Bohr explained that likely most if not all CBF funds for next year will used exclusively for courses.

The Committee therefore was asked to identify courses they wanted earmark with CBF funds.  Bohr suggested it should be those heavily-impacted and hard to register for.  Currently, Social Sciences ensure there is an equitable distribution of CBF seats purchased amongst all disciplines for all quarters.

Current CBF designated courses are:

Ant:  201, 202, 250, 344, 345, 360

Geog:  150, 250, 300, 308, 333

Soc:  111, 301, 309, 323, 355, 412, 421, 470

Students all voiced that Soc 355 as well as Soc 421 are extremely hard to get. Jones said he is very aware of this problem however his options are limited due to budget constraints and an inability to create additional sections. He also mentioned that next year’s courses may be determined by the Dean since resources are so limited; however the Committee still needs to go through this exercise. Dr Rucas suggested including Pols 360: Political Analysis in the list for next year as the department can “buy” seats in courses outside the discipline.   A motion to approve the CBF course list, including Pols 360, was made.

M/S/P:  Roa/Knecht.  Passed.

CBF Expenditures for 2009-2010

Bohr asked the Committee to consider how they might spend non-class CBF funds, if any.  Alex Roa felt the money should be allocated equally between travel, senior projects and the general fund: 1/3 to each account.  A motion was made to approve any CBF operating funds equitably to these accounts.

M/S/P:  Roa/Fox.  Passed.

Allocation of Remaining Balances for This Year

There was discussion about the balance of the CBF funds for this year if no other senior project proposals are submitted.  Faculty did not feel additional proposals would be forthcoming.  A year end party was discussed, using some of the unspent money from the senior project account.  Approval on this was deferred, however, as Bohr suggested it would be better to meet later in the quarter when a more accurate accounting of unspent money would be known.

Meeting Adjourned.
